What is good writing? What does it look like?

First of all, I think that good writing needs to have an overall set topic that is consistent throughout the piece. I notice that sometimes, when I am writing, I catch myself going off topic. (Which I won’t do right now.) Good writing is usually simple, and straightforward. Although some writing usually goes on an on to explain a thought or idea, good writing doesn’t.  Ever have a story that continues on but doesn’t move forward? Good writers do whatever it takes to not only get to the point, but also to get there in as little time as needed. Using as many senses and descriptive words as needed when telling a story, good writing lets the reader imagine they are a character following along in the plot.

Good writing uses many different types of techniques to enhance its looks. Different types of words and sentence structures are key when trying to make writing look good. Sometimes, good writing is brief. When reading news articles, the reader knows what is going on in a very short time based on the information. Good writers know to catch the reader right off the bat using different adjectives and verbs. As you can tell, I have a lot to learn in this class.
